Google Chrome is coming out of beta
- by Scott Whigham on December 10, 2008 6:23 AM| Saw this today on techcrunch: Google takes Chrome out of Beta. I had to chuckle - how quickly Chrome came out of beta... This is from the company that invented the perpetual beta. What - you didn't notice that Gmail is still in beta? Chrome lasted three months before the beta was made official. I like Chrome but, until they support add-ons a la Firefox then it's just not going to happen. I'm not a huge Firefox fan (anymore) but the add-ons simply make browsing better. Rumors are that Google is adding support for add-ons but really - until there is a standard "Browser Add-on Specification", we're likely to see the same thing in browsers that we see for the mobile phone market: fragmentation; companies that choose the iPhone for developments instead of creating three sets of code - one each for the iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones. Sorry - no real info here... Just had a laugh and thought I would share! | Image by Eric Gillin. Originally appeared in Esquire.com's article, Why Is Gmail Still in Beta? |
