Install Windows Live Writer on Windows 2008
- by Scott Whigham on December 13, 2008 7:28 AMDunno why but MSFT made a version checker in the installation wrapper for Windows Live Writer so that you can't install it on a Windows Server 2008 box. Oh sure, I know what you're thinking: "But why would you want to install WLW on a server?" Well, I wouldn't.
But the thing is - I use Windows 2008 as my desktop. Let's don't get into why as it would not be pretty...
How to Install Live Writer on Windows 2008
You have to know the trick. The trick is that WLW is just an xcopy deployment. This is great because it means that all you have to do is install WLW on a non-Windows 2008 system and then COPY THE FILES to Win2k8!
Really. That's it.
I installed it to a Vista machine and then just copied the installation directly - presto, bango, it worked.
It'll work for you too, I bet!
