CU4 for SQL Server 2008 RTM Is Out
- by Scott Whigham on March 18, 2009 8:31 AMFirst, let's get the acronyms out of the way: "RTM" stands for "Release To Manufacturing" and it is the software as it was originally shipped (no service packs or hotfixes). "CU" is the "Cumulative Update" and this is many hotfixes rolled into a single installer (but not so many that a service pack was needed). For more explanation and detail, watch the video, Service Packs, Hotfixes, and More: Keeping Your SQL Server 2008 Up to Date from the LearnItFirst.com IT Training video library.
Here's the timeline so far for SQL Server 2008 release dates:
CU | Release Date | Link | Primary Build Number |
| CU4 | March 17, 2009 | http://support.microsoft.com/kb/963036/ | 10.0.1798.0 |
| CU3 | January 17, 2009 | http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960484 | 10.0.1787.0 |
| CU2 | November 19, 2008 | http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958186/ | 10.0.1779.0 |
| CU1 | November 18, 2008 | http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956717 | 10.0.1763.0 |
| RTM | August 6, 2008 | 10.0.1600.22 |
As you can see, this SQL Server 2008 release date history still has a long way to go. Once we reach Service Pack 1, the CUs will start over at 1!
